Running from November 2010 in Dublin, Sligo, Cork and Tipperary. It is funded by the Labour Market Activation Fund and the Department of Education and Skills and provides participants with a variety of themed courses such as Green Building, Sustainable Development, Organic Horticulture, and Green Hospitality and Tourism. These courses are free to Jobseekers. Our first course in Sligo will be Green Building, 15th-24th November, 2010: Over 2 weeks, there will be time in the classroom and days with hands on, practical experience. This practical experience will include cob wall and limestone wall work in West Sligo as well as other more mainstream sustainable construction techniques. This programme is designed to provide the learner with an understanding of the principles, practices and relevance of environmentally sustainable building and construction. It will enable the learner to make choices in approach and of materials based on sound principles for sustainability, be able to analyse materials from a sustainability perspective, recognise when certain choices and approaches are appropriate. It will provide an understanding of alternative forms of meeting housing need.
